Thanksgivings

Before we head off to our Thanksgivings, I wanted to take a moment to do something for which I haven’t had a lot of time lately which is share my own personal photography.  Earlier this season, we had the opportunity to visit this hidden jewel outside of Joplin.  Grand Falls is on Shoal Creek and it boasts the title of Missouri’s largest natural, continually flowing fall.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Couldn’t break for Thanksgiving before showcasing Miss L

Little Miss L is going to celebrate her 3rd birthday soon so we met at the park to play.  It was a little chilly and Miss L was determined to be on the go but that didn’t stop us from having fun.  There are more to come but I wanted Amy to have a little peek at her daughter’s adorable photographs.

Miss L loves puppies and you could just see her imagination at work when we discovered this sculpture in the park.

Amy’s parents, Miss L’s grandparents, live out of state so in addition to Birthday and Christmas photographs we also wanted to capture a few moments of this beautiful mother and daughter together.  Hopefully, these will bring a smile to some grandparents’ faces.

And finally for a little Fall fun!

lovely Lindsay, Class of ’09

When I arrived at the park in Bolivar for this Class of 2009 Senior Session, I was greeted by a gorgeous young lady, her boy friend (a wonderfully willing assistant), and fabulous weather and lighting conditions.  It doesn’t get much better than a warm and sunny, 55 degrees in November.  So, a special sneak peek for Lindsay while she waits for the rest of her photographs.  I had a hard time deciding between my favorites so I’ll share my top picks.

Lindsay has very model-like features and she generally enjoys a more serious look.  However, we did also capture a few more casual poses.

A special thanks to all my Class of ’08 &’09 Seniors and their familes who continue to share my work with others.  When I first began shooting Seniors, I was anxious as it takes a different kind of talent and attitude than photographing younger children.  However, now I absolutely love getting to know these young adults at such an exciting time in their lives and trying to match their photographs to their personalities and interests.

An award they’d rather NOT win

Although you probably can not tell by looking at the photographs, the A family won an award they probably would rather give back, the coldest session of the season.  On the morning of our session, the windchill was in the 20s.  However, it’s not that easy to arrange the schedules of 3 generations so we decided to tough it out rather than reschedule.  With that being said, these guys were all troopers.  We tried to image that we were experiencing balmy ocean breezes, laughing, huddling close, and just about anything to look warm and happy.  Let the family tree begin…

Steve& Brenda had two sons.  And the family grew.

Steven&LeeAnn and Family

Scott&Kimala and Family

Thanks for being such great troopers.

SOS

I remember several years ago, when Amy and I were teaching together, we were using a Titanic theme to teach researching skills.  This theme managed to catch the attention of most middle school students.  One item that we pondered, discussed, and researched was the meaning of SOS.  (And being a teacher at heart, I’ll let you discover for yourself from the biased yet useful source, Wikipedia.)

However, I now have a new meaning for this famous acronym or may I suggest two meanings: Shades Of Summer or Shades Of Snowflurries.  Let me explain.  Just when I was starting to feel like I was drowning in my work, a little SOS box arrived at my front door.  A lifesaver of sorts, as it was a great, creative distraction.  Here are the contents of the box…

The box was sent to me from Jodie in KS, however the fun was started by the creative and talented, scrapbooking great elizabeth kartchner.  In June, Elizabeth decided to send these funky frames & a traveling album across the country.  Basically the rules are to take a photograph wearing the sunglasses, make a 4×6 page for the album, add your page to the album, and mail it on to the next person on the list.  So here is the page that I added…

At the same time the Shades of Summer arrived, we saw snowflurries in our area for the first time this season.  Hence, my new definition for SOS: Shades of Snowflurries.

Enjoy, Lesley in IN.  The SOS box is on its way to you and my break is over so look out Photoshop here I come.

Fall Leaves and a Family Tree

This gorgeous couple had two sons…

And these two sons each branched out, married, and had their own children…

And now Grandma and Grandpa get to enjoy six wonderful grandchildren (who like to be on the go)…

What a joyous adventure when everyone is together…

A special note to everyone is the S Family: Thank you for making my job such a joy.  It was wonderful to spend time with your family and watch all the interactions which show the connections you have with each other.

See everything we captured in the 3 Generations S Family Gallery.

3 Little Men

I have to admit, I’ve always been a little envious of this family.  The boys are just so handsome and ever since they were tiny, they’ve each looked like adorable little men.  Their stylish hair and clothing just make them look so grown up, although I’m sure their mom and dad want to envision them as sweet, little boys as long as possible.

The little guy has recently become somewhat attached to his Momma.  So, it was a little more challenging than expected to capture a photograph of the three boys together.  Hopefully, the images that were captured will make their mom smile (she admitted she usually a little crazy about their pictures).  As with most families with multiple children, each of the boys in this family has their own unique personality and I think we were able capture each one.  And that makes me SMILE!

This last image features a little post-processing, an aged canvas feel.  Although I enjoy a simple artistic style , sometimes I feel the emotion of certain photographs are enhanced by various processing techniques.  And the usual post culimination of late, more to come soon.

Patient Clients and a B Fam of 4 Sneak Peek

This time of year is really two-sided for photographers, business is great but there are very long days and not many spare moments.  So, a special thanks to all my clients who are patiently awaiting their sneak peeks and galleries.  So, the first of many wonderful family sessions yet to come.

This early morning session was sandwiched into the B Family’s busy schedule but it was well worth the effort.  Great job, Kathy on the coordination and coloring of your family’s attire.  And as expected, this session was full of smiles and laughs and I even had a little lesson in tree identification.  It’s amazing how I learn something new at every session.

And finally a few candid shots, which are always my favorites.

Kathy and Gary, thanks for bringing your family out.  Hope the last soccer game of the season was a success.  See all the photographs of this fabulous Fall family session in the B4Family Gallery.

Ashley, Senior ’09

Ashley called early last week and I am so glad we were able to squeeze in an urban Senior ’09 session.  Usually, by this point in the year the weather for outdoor sessions is beginning to get chancy but not this year.  We had a fantastic time exploring locations around the Square in center Springfield.  The area is definetly prime for seniors desiring a variety of looks with little travel.

There are many gorgeous photographs from Ashley’s session.  I realized that what I loved the most about them was the expression in her eyes.  Whether she is smiling or not, the sparkle always shows in her eyes.

When I began photographing Seniors from the Class of 2008, I had no idea how much I would love it.  With last year’s graduating class and again this year, their excitement is contagious.  Although they are a little apprehensive about the unknown that is ahead, they are also ambitious and ready for the challenge.

Best of luck in the future, Ashley and hopefully the rest of your pictures will be ready for you to view within the week.

Be sure to stop by the Client Galleries, including the Ashley Snr ’09 gallery, to see all the photographs from each session.
