It is an honor to photograph newborns. It is especially meaningful when I get to photograph someone close to our hearts, such as this sweet baby Naomi, our newest niece.

Congratulations to my sister, Rebekah and her family on welcome this sweet girl. Baby Naomi has the most adorable cheeks, round button chin, and gorgeous dark hair. I look forward to watching her grow.

This family session was a great reminder to me. A reminder that photo sessions can be full of love and encouragement. As a photographer, before each session I remind myself that preparations for photo sessions can be stressful. I take steps before, during ,and after each session to reduce that stress for my clients. I was blessed by the Rogers’ family because the focus was on giving each other words of encouragement. I was able to get a small glimpse of the unconditional love within this family. What a Blessing to me and I’m so glad I was able to capture these gorgeous family photographs that are displayed within their home daily.

As I have settled into photography over the past several years, newborn photography has really become my favorite. Newborn photography is not the easiest area to specialize in but it is exciting and rewarding. Each time I meet a family welcoming their new little one, I just feel so blessed to be a part of a new chapter in the life of that family. Avery first came to visit me when she was just shy of two weeks old and the first thing I noticed was her hair. She was born with thick, beautiful hair that is just a little adorably crazy.

Avery’s Mom arrived at her session with two bags of apples in a basket. We combined them with one of my many newborn hats and the outcome was a great set of apple themed newborn pictures that went together to create a unique birth announcement.

It’s always exciting when I get to meet new little guys. I had the opportunity to photograph Brett when he was just starting to support himself well at three months. He was looking like such a handsome little man in his newsboy cap.

Sweet Emmaline. {Springfield, MO Newborn Photographer}

Over the moon! That is how I would describe how excited I was to photograph sweet Emmaline. Her brother was one of the first little babes that I had the opportunity to photograph all the way through his first year and on. Emmaline’s parents are dear friends of ours so we were so excited when we were finally able to meet her. There was no doubt in my mind that our first session(s) together would be ultra girly.

I was also honored to be a part of big brother, Connor and Emmaline getting to meet each other for the first time.

I thought it would be fun to have a look at Connor and Emmaline both in their first days of life. It’s so interesting to compare sibling features. I’m sure as little Miss Emmaline grows into her personality, we’ll really start to see the similarities and differences between her and her big brother.

There are many aspects of my job that I LOVE. One thing that tops that list is photographing returning customers. I feel so blessed to be able to interact with families as their little ones grow. Caleb is part of the Captured by Sarah First Year Photography plans so I get the opportunity to photograph him every few months. It’s fabulous! This is one happy little guy who did a great job sitting up on his own at his 6 month session.

Miss E at 2. {Mommy Photographer}

It’s been quite some time since I posted any photographs of our little one. As you can see, she is developing her own spunky little personality and can be quite a challenge to keep up with. I picked up this adorable handmade boutique outfit at the last Just Between Friends, JBF, Consignment Sale. She looked great in it for our Easter events but I couldn’t let her outgrow it without a little photo session. Our local Japanese stroll gardens, offered a free entrance day so we headed out to the park.

It is important to me that our daughter enjoy her photo sessions. I plan on a lifetime of photo sessions, so I don’t want to us to have many negative experiences. The majority of the time this means our little sessions involve a lot of creative play with some direction from Mom and never last very long. On several occasions, I have also given up, admittedly sometime with slight frustration and disappointment, and decided to try another day. My role as an understanding, patient, loving Mommy is more important than perfect photographs of my daughter. There are times when she will ask for me to take her pictures and I’ll drop everything when that occurs. Hopefully, as she grows her attention span will lengthen and I can involve her in the creative process more so she can feel more ownership in her sessions.

One of the many roles I currently play is the one of a Mommy Photographer. The term “Mommy Photographer” has actually developed a negative connotation among differently circles. Mostly because some women, who are also mothers, will try to operate a photography business in a way that is not professional or of the best quality. I, however, love my title of Mommy Photographer even if it can be one of the most challenging.

Sweet Baby Miles. {Springfield MO Newborn Baby Photographer}

It’s so enjoyable photographing sweet little guys with their loving parents. Baby Miles was born a little early so he was quite small and flexible. It worked out great for these fantastic baseball photos for his Daddy, who is a huge baseball fan.

Creating birth announcements brings me great joy. It combines my creative loves for photography and graphic design.

In another set from the session, we created a little black and white drama. Black and white photography is quite flattering on newborn skin or tired eyes of new parents. I always offer black and white images as a part of newborn galleries. See all the images in Miles’ gallery.

Baby Miles and his parents have moved out of our area now but perhaps I’ll get the chance to photograph them again in the future. Best of luck Kevin, Amanda, and baby Miles!

The Best 3 month session to date! Caleb. {Springfield Baby Photographer}

In the world of children’s photography, the 3 month session causes great fear in the heart of many photographers. Gone are the days of sleepy, pliable newborns but still to come are the sessions with strong, independent infants who are able to support themselves. In between all that is the 3 month session. I’ve spent my fair share of time studying posing and tips to prepare myself and have had a fair amount of experience. However, the three month sessions depends a lot of the ability and the personality of the child and Caleb knocked it out of the park. He held himself up well, had great eye contact, and played well with us. Then, he ate and fell into a deep sleep so we could pose him for a few minutes. It was a dream. Now, I just have to remember it’s not the norm.

The holiday portion of Caleb’s session was amazing and I look forward to using the twinkle lights in the upcoming Holiday season.
